Lo scorso anno non aveva potuto partecipare perché la settima stagione era andata in onda troppo tardi, ma nel 2018 si prende la rivincita. Il trono di spade torna a gareggiare per gli Emmy Awards e lo fa da primadonna: con 22 candidature, Game of Thrones è il titolo che domina la lista dei concorrenti ai più importanti premi della televisione internazionale. Secondo, con 21 nomination, è il fantascientifico Westworld.
Quest'anno, però, c'è una novità: con le sue 112 candidature Netflix è per la prima volta il network con più nomination in gara, superando Hbo, che ne porta a casa 'solo' 108. Bisognerà aspettare il 17 settembre, quando al Microsoft Theater di Los Angeles, andrà in scena la 70ma edizione degli Emmy, per sapere se il trionfo di Netflix è solo potenziale o se si convertirà in una sfilza di statuette.
